This week was amazing!

Well... actually it was really difficult. But it ended with a baptism. So.... This week was amazing!

So many hard things happened this week, and they were all very closely followed by little miracles.

----

My computer froze let me make this short:

We were having a really hard time finding people to teach and on Sunday we had someone come to church for the first time. His name is Francis. He has been attending family home evening with one of the members for almost a year. This was his first time going to church. Or talking to missionaries. He asked us what he needs to do to be baptized. Golden.

Upon another occasion, still discouraged with the lack of new investigators, we went contacting. The second house we came to was a man and his niece. Jose and Clarisa. Jose: not incredibly interested. Clarisa (who is only 8 years old): very interested. When we returned she had read almost the entire lesson 3 pamphlet. Which is really impressive considering the reading level of most 8 year olds. She had so many questions and understands everything!

At the baptism of Diana her aunt came. She investigated the church before but lost interest. After that night, and her tears upon seeing Diana be baptized.... I think she is ready to be taught again.

Well I am hear to tell you all that after the trial of our faith mentioned in Ether, the Lord will ALWAYS bless us.

I love you all,

Elder Mecham

Queridos seres queridos,

This week was amazing... cheverísimo! Our zone had the opportunity to go to the temple last thursday. AND, we had stake conference this weekend. This week was really busy.

Elder Maya had to do some baptismal interviews on Saturday morning, and got to attend all the meetings for stake conference... (we didn´t have time to teach anybody). I loved the meetings and I learned so much. I was a little worried before hand, thinking about the investigators we wouldn´t be able to teach. I guess that in the end it was really a blessing to attend those meetings; for if we weren´t there I wouldn´t have witnessed some of the most amazing testimonies of my mission. During one of the meetings they called some members to the stand to bear their testimonies... guess who they called to the stand? Katy and Maximo! The people I helped baptize earlier this year! Their testimonies were so heartfelt that Elder Anderson (Area President) commented on them and used them as part of his talk. Sometimes the Lord changes our perspective on the path so that we can see the end, while we were only looking at the ground.

I know that the Lord loves each one of us and that, if we only look, we can see blessings and miracles every day of our lives.

Les quiero a todos,
Elder Mecham

Here´s the noticias,

I`m not sure if I ever mentioned that the Dominican Republic is amazing...

Well it is.

I just noticed this week how used to this country I am. Examples:
  • It is not weird to me anymore to have loud music playing in the streets 20 hours a day.
  • I have almost forgotten what warm showers are like (and they don´t seem very apealing)
  • I almost got hit by a motorcycle last night. Not phased.
  • I prayed in English the other day. It felt weird.
  • I gave someone directions this week. Estoy platanao.
  • I know all the words to the song they play every morning at the school next to our house.
  • Lucrio (spelling?) is my favorite dish. Which is really just basically rice and beans.
  • The guy at the colmado, Juan, knows my name. (We might start teaching his son this week)
  • This place is my home.
We are going to the Temple (again!!) this week.  I am really excited.

We are teaching some of the coolest people on the planet. We have an investigator who can´t walk... Pretty sure he is coming to church this week. We also have a new family we are teaching that actually asked us if they could come to church with us before we had the opportunity to invite them. They arrived before us to sacrament meeting. Also the ward leaders are working closer with us than ever before.

I am so excited for this week. We have such big plans.

Queridos.... Todos,

This week was great. I recieved my new companion on Tuesday. His name is Elder Maya, he is from mexico and.... loves working hard! But more than that he loves working effectively. This week we have worked a lot more with members. As a blessing of this we were able to receive a lot more contacts... I mean solid contacts. We have a lot of new investigators that are showing a lot of promise.

Also, we were able to go to the temple!!! We went with the ward and brought some recent converts with us to do baptisms for the dead. Katy was able to come with us. It was an amazing experience.
sorry the email is short... Lets just say there were some technical difficulties.

I love life as a son of God. I love life as a member of this church. I love life as a missionary. I love the Lord.

nos checamos,
Élder Mecham
